A Drive-By That Won't Make the News

The Underrated Power of the Drive-By (Or Ride-By)

driving by homes for sale is the first step of winning the deal

When it comes to real estate, there's a secret weapon that doesn’t get nearly enough credit: the simple act of just driving (or biking) by a property. No fancy tours, no big commitments—just a firsthand look at the neighborhood vibe and how the place feels from the curb.

Why does this matter? Because a quick drive-by can tell you a ton: Is the street quiet or bustling? How's the traffic? Are there well-kept gardens, friendly neighbors out walking their dogs, or maybe some cool local businesses nearby? It’s a no-pressure way to get a feel for the area without even setting foot inside.

Why the Outside Comes First

Showings can be super disruptive for sellers. They have to clean up, leave the house, sometimes shuffle their pets around, and generally put in a lot of effort just for a single visit. So if you jump straight to an inside showing without knowing if the neighborhood or the exterior is even a fit for you, you’re really starting off on the wrong foot.

By doing a drive-by first, you save everyone’s time—including your own. You get to do your homework upfront, and all the folks involved (agents, sellers, and you as the buyer) will appreciate that you’ve checked out the basics before setting up a showing. It’s a simple step that makes the whole process smoother and less stressful for everyone. And hey, if you're like me and you love a good bike ride, a ride-by is even better. You get to see how bike-friendly the streets are, which is a great sign that it's a quieter spot. No fluff here, just a solid tip: sometimes the best first impression is the one you get from the driver’s seat (or the bike saddle).

Ready for the Inside Tour?

So, if you’ve taken a good look at the outside, done your homework on the neighborhood, and you’re still curious to see the inside, that’s your cue. Just give Heather or me a call and we’ll be more than happy to help you take that next step.
